About Emily
Emily Yang, a rising junior at University of California at Berkeley, is an award-winning guzheng player and singer. Emily was featured as a narrator in the Bravura Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2016 Family Concert and a guzheng soloist in pre-show and gala performances of the 2019 and 2020 New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the Chinese New Year in the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Emily also performed at the 2019 Asian Cultural Symphony of the USA’s Lunar New Year Concert in the Oculus at the World Trade Center, and she participated in the Guinness Book of World Record’s “Largest Guzheng Ensemble” in Macao, China in 2017.
Emily has been a child actress and commercial model. She appeared on Sesame Street and television and print commercials for major companies including Target, Comcast, and Ernst & Young, Accenture. Emily has been awarded top prizes in national and international competitions, including the 7th Supernova Chinese American Singing Contest (2019-Best Newcomer), Miss Chinese Beauty Pageant (2019-Miss Talent), Sinovision Youth Talent Contest (2019-Silver) and National Young Musicians Showcase Competition (2017-Grand). Emily has won gold in the Macao International Guzheng Competitio (2017), New York International Chinese Music Competition (2018), Princeton International Chinese Music Competition (2018), and Donghwa Cultural Foundation’s Asian Traditional Performing Arts Competition (2016). She has also received first place for guzheng in the annual New Jersey Music Teacher Association’s Young Musicians Competition (2015-2018).
Emily has performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Weill Recital Hall and New Jersey Performing Arts Center. An avid chamber player, Emily is committed to community outreach with her musical gifts.
